HGV Horseboxes

HGV Horseboxes as they are commonly referred to are vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes. Irrespective of the year you passed your driving test you will be required today to take a further test to give you entitlement to drive Category C vehicles.

The larger vehicles offer much greater weight carrying capacity and therefore the ability to transport more horses. It is also possible on these longer chassis vehicles to combine increased horse capacity with large, spacious living accommodation, within the legal weight (MAM) of the vehicle.

With these larger vehicles are some further considerations:

• They are subject to tachograph rules (for both private and commercial use)
• Increased fuel consumption
• Increased vehicle height
