Horsebox Maintenance

We would recommend that your lorry is serviced (by a professional) annually, including a thorough check on the brakes. A full service history is also a strong selling point when it comes to selling your horsebox, ensure your log book is stamped and activity recorded as appropriate.

There are a number of checks and activities that you can perform yourself to help keep your vehicle on the road, please see our tips below.

Regular maintenance that you can perform yourself

In additional to an annual service, your regular maintenance programme should include the following:
  • Regular cleaning
  • Checks on lights and indicators
  • Inspection of flooring in horse stall area. (This includes lifting any rubber where possible). You are checking for signs of rotting or weakness. Any defects should be addressed immediately.
  • Check tyre pressures and tyres for any signs of obvious or uneven wear
  • Check wheel nuts
  • Check oil levels
  • Check radiator water levels
  • Regular starting and running of the engine to keep the batteries charged up and parts from seizing
