New Insurance Law
The law is set to change during 2011 regarding the insurance of all vehicles. The law states that all vehicles must be insured, all of the time, unless the legal owner has made a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) (or if the vehicle has been off the road since before SORN came into force on 31st January 1998).This law could well effect many horsebox owners who use their horseboxes seasonally. The new law will prevent all horsebox owners cancelling their insurance during the months they plan on leaving the vehicle parked up, unless they file a SORN on the same date.
Those not complying with this new ruling may face penalties as follows:
- receive a fixed penalty of £100
- have their vehicle wheel-clamped, impounded, or destroyed
- face a court prosecution, with a possible maximum penalty of £1000
